Pewsey Vale FC are delighted to annouce the signing of Jon Guthrie by Crewe Alexandra on an 18 month deal, following a successful 10 week trial period financed through the good will of the local community and his proud family.
A number of us have known Jon for many years and watched him progress into a high quality footballer. It is really heart warming to see such a humble lad progress through our Club into the Football league. We all know how determined Jon is and I for one am sure he will be a great success. We for sure look forward to welcoming back Jon to the clubhouse very soon to celebrate!!
Jon on his move:
“I owe my old club a massive thank you because they have taught me everything that I know and they are a great club, but I’m extremely happy to have signed for Crewe.
It has gone on for a while really, but I’m just delighted to have signed. I first came to the club on trial in September for a week and then got invited back for an extended trial.
So I have been up here about ten weeks now and while it has been hard coming up away from home, the lads have all made me really welcome and I feel settled in the squad. So it has been a long process, but I’m delighted to have signed even though it hasn’t really sunk in yet! It is an amazing feeling.
But now it is about pushing on. The manager has said to be that I need to keep progressing as I have done. It has obviously been a big step up coming from the league where I was playing in, and the reserve games against the likes of Bolton and Wolves were a real challenge.
But I think I’ve done well, and I just need to keep doing the same. I need to be physically bulk up and then hopefully all of the hard work will pay-off and I’ll be in and around the first-team.”
We wish Jon well and proves to be a great sucess and continue of course to make us all proud.
